rishi anand (dphil physiology, anatomy and genetics, 2018) has been elected as mcr president.

“i’m looking forward to getting started” said rishi on hearing of his election. his plans for the role include building and maintaining wadham’s mcr community during covid-19 and ensuring mcr-specific needs are represented to the college.

“i am fortunate to be joining an experienced committee, and i am looking forward to working with them to support the mcr community. in particular, we will be focusing on providing a range of welfare and social events to help students to stay in contact with each other and reduce the risks of isolation and burn-out. we are considering a range of innovative ideas to connect people virtually, but we hope that we will be able to conduct in-person events (within the college guidelines) after christmas,” he said.

based within the university of oxford's department of physiology, anatomy and genetics, rishi’s research focuses on the neurotransmitter dopamine and the mechanisms that regulate its release in the brain. “my aim is to identify novel mechanisms which we can then target to treat diseases involving dysfunctional dopaminergic neurotransmission, such as parkinson’s disease,” he added.

uniquely in oxford, wadham combines its junior common room with its middle common room to form a united students’ union with an integrated undergraduate and post-graduate community. rishi will represent the mcr at meetings of the college governing body.
